Visual Arts Reflect on the context of personal works of art in relation to community, culture, and the world.Comprehensive introduces art history, art criticism, aesthetic judgment, and studio production. Emphasizes the ability to understand and use elements and principles of design through a variety of media, processes, and visual resources. REQUIRED COMPONENTS FOR H.S. CREDIT:
In order to receive high school credit for the completion of VA COMP, and Advanced Content class, students must maintain a C average.
Students will earn additional county-wide credits through the completion of teacher-guided units which will result in the creation of the following required elements:
Maintenance of a sketchbook/journal
Student created and maintained DIGITAL PORTFOLIO demonstrating student’s technical and expressive skills in a variety of media.
Participation in 2 Common Core performance tasks (1 per 18 week Semester). These tasks will be submitted online and be assessed at the county-level.
STUDIO PROJECT OUTLINE:
The course will focus primarily on technique development in realism, drawing, and painting. Topics covered will include: value, shading, chiaroscuro, one-point and two-point perspective, grid drawing, figure drawing, portraiture, faces, still life, etc. In addition to drawing, students will be expected to produce two three-dimensional artworks (one ceramic (clay) and one recycled sculpture). Students will also explore other media including: printmaking, fiber arts, re-use, altered books and other various media.
Art Club will meet Wednesdays at 4:15-5:15 pm. Students will be notified if it is postponed or canceled for that day. We will not have Art Club on December 21st.
All grades will be numeric. The grading scale is as follows:
A = 90 and above
B = 80 – 89
C = 74 – 79
D = 70 – 73
F = 69 and below

Each student is required to have the following supplies by the second week of class. They must have these materials with them every day to receive full points for Classwork and Sketchbook assignments:
